Healing Connections is a one-of-kind program offered to breast cancer patients at the Misericordia Community Hospital. Lorrie Tiegs, a breast cancer survivor, is a volunteer. She meets with the patients before their surgery to answer questions and offer comfort in a way only a fellow breast cancer patient can.
Healing Connections also offers a three-week program at the Misericordia for anyone who has had breast cancer surgery in the Edmonton area. The program brings in health professionals including clinical nutritionists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nurses to help clients better understand their surgical outcome, and group sessions are conducted to support patients emotionally.
To take part in the program, patients can call 780-735-2768.
